California’s New Fair Food Delivery Act
In September 2020, California signed the Fair Food Delivery Act requiring bags and containers that transport ready-to-eat foods by a third-party food delivery platform be “closed by the food facility with a tamper-evident method.”
This bill came into effect on January 1st, 2021, and is designed to ensure the safety of takeout food for consumers, and protect restaurants from third-party food delivery without their consent.
Although tamper-evident labels do not protect the food from being compromised, they will immediately indicate if the contents have been disturbed.
Tamper-evident labels have a distinctive design and are made with materials that are not readily available to the public or easy to duplicate.
